Use the results, but check them

HardwareVitals is built to be accurate and is tested against known reference values. It is still software written by people, running in a browser we do not control, on input we cannot see. Treat every result as a well-informed starting point rather than an authority.

Before you rely on a result for anything that matters — money owed to someone, a legal or tax position, a medical decision, a machined part, a navigational fix — check it against a second source.

Specific limits of this site

A test passing here means the browser could reach the device and it responded. It does not prove the hardware is free of faults, and a device that works here can still fail in an application that asks more of it.

Results depend on the browser, its permissions and your operating system as much as on the hardware. A microphone muted at the system level, or by a headset’s own hardware switch, looks identical to one that has failed.

The dead pixel test fills the screen with solid colours and the speaker test plays an audible tone. Both carry a warning on their own page, both require a deliberate action to start, and neither should be run without reading it.

Nothing here can diagnose a failing component. It is not a substitute for a repair technician, or — if any test causes discomfort — for a doctor.
